The 48th Regular Session of the General Assembly of the Organization of American States (OAS) was held in Washington D.C., United States on June 4th and 5th, 2018. A delegation of the Chinese Government attended the Assembly and the Dialogue between Heads of Delegations of OAS Member States and Permanent Observers.

The Chinese delegation gave a briefing on China-OAS cooperation at the Dialogue, stressing that since becoming an observer to the OAS in 2004, China has developed friendly cooperation with the OAS. The China-OAS Cooperation Fund has supported nearly 90 key programs of the OAS in political, economic and social fields. As a firm advocate of multilateralism, China will continue to support the work of the OAS and advance its friendly cooperation with countries in the Western Hemisphere.

China-OAS cooperation plays an important role in promoting the development of relations between China and the Latin American and Caribbean (LAC) states. The recent years have witnessed fast growth of China-LAC relations on all fronts thanks to the joint efforts of the two sides. In January this year, the second Ministerial Meeting of China-CELAC Forum was successfully held in Chile, where all participating parties agreed to jointly advance China-LAC relations through the "Belt and Road" Initiative. In developing its relations with LAC countries, China has no intention to target or exclude any other country, nor will such a relationship affect or harm the interests of anyone else in the region. China-LAC cooperation fully conforms to international rules and local laws. Going forward, China will work together with LAC countries to upgrade their cooperation and level up their relations on the basis of mutual respect and shared benefits.
