Senior Party official calls for guarding social equity, justice(11/23/07)

BEIJING, Nov. 23 (Xinhua) -- A senior official of the Communist Party of China (CPC) has called for strengthening the implementation of the Constitution and law, deepening judicial reform, and safeguarding social equity and justice.

Zhou Yongkang, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Central Committee Political Bureau, made these remarks while visiting the Supreme People's Court, the Supreme People's Procuratorate, the Ministry of Justice, the Ministry of State Security, and some grassroots law-enforcement and judicial departments in Beijing.

During his visits, the senior Party official urged the country's law-enforcement and judicial departments to create a sound social environment and rule of law to achieve the goals set by the recent 17th Party Congress.

For a period, the prime political task for law-enforcement and judicial departments will be to study and implement the essence of the 17th Party Congress, Zhou said. He called for an organic integration of the Party's leadership, people's mastership and governing the nation by law.

Zhou demanded ensuring the independent and just use of rights by courts and procuratorates and efforts to "improve, protect and guarantee the life of the people."

Law-enforcement and judicial staff must be always loyal to the Party, the nation, the people and the law, the official stressed.
